"Her
son was born premature. When they tried to hook up an IV, they missed
the vein and the fluid drained into his head, causing cerebral palsey.
She stayed with her child for two years in the hospital. Day and night.
She was scared social services was going
to take him. She finally wanted to take him home, actually she had
never held him in the two years. The doctors told her he would die
within a week. She was willing to take the chance and wanted to take him
home to die in her arms. She walked with her son in her sweater every
minute he was alive till he was too big to carry. Her son would wrap his
legs around his Mom and she did this every minute he was awake. The
Government refused to even cover him medically in the home. The Federal,
Provincial, and the Native band, she was from all bickered about
covering the home care costs for her son. She and her BF ended up having
to buy all the supplies. Eventually someone donated a wheel chair to
her son. As soon as this happened CAS actually CFS, is what they call it
in Manitoba, told her he must attend school. She didn't want to put him
in school. She was scared. But they forced her. He has severe cerebral
palsey. Only walked a few times with her aiding him. Could not speak and
drooled. One time her BF was at the school and seen another handicapped
kid getting slapped in the hand by the school aid. He also was severely
disabled. Her child started coming home soon after with red hands from
obvious slaps by the same worker. She complained and pulled him out of
school. There was a medical bed donated to the family around the same
time. She tried to get sheets for this bed. But couldn't find any. She
went to the workers and a few agency's. The workers came to her home a
few times trying to say she couldn't medically afford to care for her
son. There were groceries and plenty of toys for him and the other
children she had. The workers said she needed help in the home. But for
more than ten years she took care of all her kids, without any help, and
refused. That is the reason they apprehended. Five kids were taken at
once. At $87,000 per normal child plus the funding for a disabled child
that agency was getting close to a half million dollars per year, for
those kids. This woman never did drugs and never drank in her life."
